QLD: Man drowns on Gold Coast

BRISBANE, Dec 25 AAP - A man died today after being pulled from surf off the Gold Coast,
police said.

The man was surfing off Pacific Avenue at Tugun when he got into difficulties about 11am
(AEST), a police spokesman said.

Bystanders dragged him to shore and he was rushed to a nearby medical centre but was dead
on arrival.

Police were trying to identify the man who had been surfing alone away from a patrolled
area.

Elsewhere on the Gold Coast, surf lifesavers performed 15 minor rescues in mainly calm
conditions with waves around the one metre mark.
